Mattress Sales
Labor Day is a traditional day for companies to offer a “White Sale” on sheets, pillow cases, and even mattresses. Supposedly this started in 1878, when John Wanamaker of Philadelphia department store fame decreed January to be the time for a “White sale.” Bed linens, which were available in white only, were sold at a discount. This was done to increase sales for these items at a time of the year when sales were normally slow. Somewhere alomg the line, the white sale concept spread to mattresses and other items for the home. Below are a few early deals in this category, but watch for others to start promoting a couple of weeks before the holiday.

Appliance Sales
Major household appliances are usually a big purchase, but many retailers will offer an appliance sale that takes up to 40% off large appliances during Labor Day. That makes it a good opportunity to buy a new washer, dryer, fridge, oven, dishwasher, and more. Here are a few companies to keep a watchful eye upon.

BBQ Grills and Outdoor Furniture
